Dry needling uses thin needles to stimulate trigger points in muscles, ligaments and tendons to treat pain and movement issues caused by musculoskeletal disorders

Dry needling is a treatment used for pain and movement issues associated with myofascial trigger points. With this technique, a practitioner inserts monofilament needles into or near the trigger points to stimulate the muscles to contract, or twitch. This helps relieve pain and improve the patient’s range of motion where muscles, ligaments and tendons are concerned.

A myofascial trigger point is a band of tight, irritable and dysfunctional muscle tissue, which can emerge as a result of injury, overuse or repetitive movements, causing a restricted range of motion, along with pain or tenderness. Dry needling is applied to an affected muscle or trigger point to decrease muscle tightness, increase blood flow and reduce pain.

Common conditions treated by dry needling include:

  • Myofascial pain
  • Disc problems and back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Whiplash
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Migraines
  • Osteoarthritis and joint pain
  • Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Tendonitis and tendinopathy

Other recommended treatments may include:

  • Targeted Deep Tissue Massage
  • Myotherapy
  • Osteopathy
  • Chiropractic
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine
